Sharing tips and experiences as we travel in our Pleasure Way Ascent Campervan: upgrades, DIY, organizing, cooking, packing, planning, and adventures.
Are you wondering about the meaning behind the title of my channel? It is from a favorite poem called "A Bridge Across Time" written by Darlene Stevens about her great great grandmother. The last stanza of the poem is:
I'll live my life and when it's done
I'll live again in those to come.
For I'm a bridge from she to me;
From those that were, to those to be.
Each one of us can be a bridge across time, sharing our experiences, stories, history, with those to come. This channel is my small way of building a bridge between those who love travel, adventure, and sharing with strangers they have yet to meet.

50 years ago: The beginning of our adventure.
Nice to hear Owen. Beautiful song and performance.
Looks like it was a fun adventure and a beautiful area. The more I see of Idaho the more I like it.
Sad to hear your brother’s excitement about the place general Howard ambushed native Americans. Just one more example of colonizers violence.
He wasn’t excited. I cut out the end of his story because he was coughing.
What a beautiful adventure.
Do you have a link for the skillets/cookware? Thanks

Family, beautiful vistas & great music 🎶 & let's not forget about the delicious ice cream 🍦, yummy!! What a beautiful episode. Idaho is gorgeous! Wishing your brother a quick recovery. 💕 Stay safe, Yvonne 🥰 P.S. Your van is looking very nice. Looking forward to its debut 🚐
I love parades like that - my Grandpa always rode his horse in the Ventura parade. We had a huckleberry shake at a SD welcome center, which was a giant fun store (somewhere). I’m looking forward to getting up this way in a few months!
It just needed some 🥁
Isn’t Idaho stunning. Wow. Also, didn’t you have the same thing happen last year with a bite? You are delish.
Yes! And on a previous visit got stung by a paper wasp. I looked like a monster.
@@FromShetoMe more than usual? 😂
Great minds think alike....I had just said, "that looks like the scene from The Sound of Music" and you said the same thing! Such a beautiful trip! One of the songs you used sounded like Owen singing. Thanks for letting us tag along with you. I just love your videos...your editing and music transitions are always so good. Much love to you from SC (prayers for your brother's surgery, too), Jane ❤🙏
We will be there in about a week and a half headed to Warm Lake, Idaho
Devoto is one of my favorite places to stop. You are in my homeland.
Oh, how cool of an adventure! I've been through Whitebird on the highway a couple of times, but my great grandfather had a homestead up there in the Whitebird/Canfield area that I have yet to visit. Also, very cool to see my daughter's ballet teacher and her husband out doing what they love! We plan to spend more time in that area when transiting down to visit family in southern Idaho.
LOL. We love our trips with them.
Thanks for this great video! Would you have a link to the bike trail, I can’t seem to find it and we would love to add it to our list of things to do.
There isn’t a name but we went up Canfield road to Joseph road to Camp Howard. I used OnX to find it or any topo map program should get you there.
Yes. Indeed.
That starlapse was EPIC!!!
Great video. Thank you.
Thank you for showing that people over 60 can have the most amazing adventures riding in the mountains on e-mountain bikes.
And even people over 70. 😅
Wouldn’t that dictionary be used to learn a native language instead of a foreign language? ◡̈
You’re right. Foreign to most of us though.
Debbie and John-wow, just watched George’s ‘review in progress’, of your van. Looks beautiful, love the aesthetic of it, love that you’re going with the beautiful PW laminate, the airplane cabinets and the 2-step. Been watching and liking your videos each week, though I have cut way down on my chattering comments. I couldn’t be quiet on this build of yours though. It’s a beaut! Can’t wait to see you enjoying and traveling in it.👍🏻👏😎
Thank you! Glad you're still hanging with us.
Always a joy to watch the videos of your travels!
Many thanks!
I think of the Cookie Monster and Nom Nom stuffing cookies in his mouth. Great video. Biking must run in the family Debbie.
Biking meant freedom from a very early age. Watching Ryan Van Duzer's videos has inspired us to do more.
This is one of the most scenic videos you have produced. Those wildflower-strewn hills definitely looked like the Austrian Alps. I expected to see Julie Andrews at any minute! We hope your brother has a favorable outcome. We'll keep him in our thoughts. All your relatives, seen in earlier videos, seem so cool and interesting!
Thanks! We'll be checking in on him when we return from the east.
I just watched the tour of your van by George....very cool! You all had a nice Idaho bike and hike. I wonder what bit you Deb, it sure did a number on your face...ouch! We've been going after a lot of spiders here that are low in the trees and shrubs cause otherwise we run into them, I'm using my electric swatter. Yum, huckleberry ice cream, your videos always have me wanting a delicious something. Have a great week ahead, take care.
I seem to be very sensitive to spider bites so I'm guessing that's what it was.
Nice episode featuring family & friends. When at Teton Valley Ranch Camp in Kelly, WY(now Dubois), we were required to learn the history and experience the locations of Chief Joseph and William Bridger. Daily new experience was the order of the day - one day nothing appealed to a 12 year old so I mucked the barn stalls & watched the Ferrier work. Sacred Jeans were made by earning Holes from Experience.
If you would like to see the progress on our new van, George features it in his latest video: ua-cam.com/video/vLCBvA5VI-M/v-deo.html
@@FromShetoMe it looks so pretty
Hi Debbie, Watching this episode made me thinking about e-bike that my husband like to buy and I refused to buy, now I will consider about it 😁 Can you tell me where did you purchase that white mash bag attached to the sink cabinet wall? Thank you!
“Organized Obie” and it is called the “get wet organizer”
@@FromShetoMe Thank you💕
Another great video featuring beautiful scenery. (Looking forward to South Dakota. If you are still in that area you should check out the mikelson bike trail in the black hills and Custer State Park. on the East side there is the awesome little town of De Smet, it is all about the pioneer life of the Ingalls family.
Coming up in a future video. 😊
Beautiful scenes.
Thank you for your video! I always enjoy your pictures of the wonderful landscape(s) you can travel through. Besides, I appreciated your info on the Nez Perce. I remember the days at "Gymnasium" (= German High school) when we learned about Chief Joseph, his fellow native Americans and their lives.
Our grandson is in Germany just now and loving it.
@@FromShetoMe I hope he read Mark Twain's "The Awful German Language" prior to his departure!
I think I might have told you that he is taking German at the local JC because it isn't offered at his high school. He really enjoyed practicing his German and I wouldn't doubt it if he becomes fluent. He has German heritage on both sides of his family.
I love how you just randomly found & road that cool trail! How are you liking the shrug? Almost bought a few awhile back, but I have so many Columbia button down sunshirts I feel I should wear them. But stretchy sound way more comfortable. The star lapse is incredible!
The shrug is great for sun protection and easy to remove. Takes up very little space too. 😁
Can you tell me which Moon shade you got and what was the name of the video where and John demonstrated putting it on your rig? We’re finally sick of messing with our Ascent awning and want to go the Moon Shade route. Thanks!
That was hard even for me. It starts around the 3:15 mark: ua-cam.com/video/eMAZ595IOhs/v-deo.htmlsi=TPJ6y8bQHPU_BskK We have the smaller one but have thought about getting the longer version. We also have their “wall” accessory. They no longer sell it with the magnet, but you can get the magnets as an accessory and we like them better than the suction cups because of the way the roof curves. The longer version would probably be better because the door, when open is exactly where you want to put one of the ends. It means you have to move the magnet when you open or close the door. But if you have a Ford transit then that wouldn’t be an issue because the door doesn’t go up as high on the roof.
@@FromShetoMe Thank you for your reply. I rewatched half of your videos again and gave up. Two Last questions: how do you keep the Neodymium magnets from scratching your rig finish and do you find that the gray color gets too hot underneath? They now have a lighter golden hour color.
you could adhere a piece of thin material to the back or place a piece of tape on the rig that corresponds with the placement. We actually have both colors. I like the golden colored one but don’t think you’ll notice much difference in temp.
They do have rest stop signs but they just have a picture of a picnic table. You don't get too much warning-- just one warning sign and then the one pointing out the driveway -- but you learn what to look for after travelling Northern Ontario several times. The signs are a bit clearer in the western provinces but they don't always use the word "rest stop" either.
Thank you for sharing, very informative. Taking a trip there in a couple weeks. Been in Alaska 52 years and had never been to McCarthy.
Probably our favorite memories of Alaska.
"Reminded me of a children's book" Anne of Green Gables, perhaps? lol
This is so helpful. Thank you! I will follow your foot print! I am not handy nor knowledgeable as you are. I need find someone to help me with it. Any recommendations? I live in Huntington Beach!
If we were home I’d help. But I’m not knowledgeable on the electrical stuff. If you want an expert then I recommend Beach Cities RV.
You are the best! I got my van from Beach city RVs and I just asked them. They said yes! My Frig was making popping sound and they told me that mine was so obsolete that they could not even find parts. I live across the dog beach in HB and I hope to run into you some day. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and I appreciate it. AND thank you for offering help.
@@healthandillness4260 you’re so welcome. Tell them hi for me!
They know you well when I showed your UA-cam to them. They said hello back! Knowing what you know, would you have chosen another brand of the compressor Frig? Looks like you also appreciate a Italian compressor Frig that has the quieter compressor.
@@healthandillness4260 Isotherm makes a good product. And I don't know if you could find another fridge to fit the opening in the Ascent. The only thing I don't like about it is the freezer doesn't keep ice cream hard enough. It probably only goes to mid 20's. But that may be true of other brands as well. The machine is extremely quiet. The reason I am going to try a Vitrifrigo in our new rig is because they promised me the freezer would go to zero. But I seriously doubt that it will. It took months to get the Vitrifrigo.
I need a refrigerator like yours.
I loved the banana slugs. You may not know that you also have them in California but yours are “ripe” bananas, yellow and black, while ours are green.
Yes, UC Santa Cruz Mascots. 🥴
Wow! What an amazing story, this would definitely be a great podcast. To be honest I didn't know who Bob was or much about Charles Manson either. I had to watch a documentary here on UA-cam on the history of the area and who was Manson. Great story telling. Thank you so much for sharing. 🥰
Glad you enjoyed it!
We’re about to cross into Washington from Vancouver having collected our camper and driving all the way from Halifax so this video series is perfect timing. Thank you 😀
Thank you! Have a wonderful journey.
Do you have an Amazon store. You mentioned so many things over the years that would be good to buy that. I’d like to refer to various items you recommended.
Yes, the link is in the description box but you have to copy and paste because UA-cam doesn’t support hot links that leave their platform. www.amazon.com/shop/fromshetome
We have been looking for a box to hold the microwave stuff. Where did you locate that pink plastic box - I did not find it in your recommended items from Amazon and etc.
I got it at Target years ago. Have you tried a Google search with the dimensions that will work? Just a thought.
Nice work. I really enjoyed your video. I travel these roads regularly, and it was nice to see familiar places woven into your story. Speaking of family connections, when our son-in-law died, we scattered his ashes near your great grandfather’s monument.
Interesting. Thanks.
I always enjoy your video content and production! Wishing you safe journey, fun adventures, and some special treats along the way!
How thoughtful! Thank you so much!
Thanks!
Not that you guys are in a position to do this, but your french toast segment made me want to mention the bread that we have been totally hooked on. As part of our Keto-friendly lifestyle, we started making our own bread in a bread maker. The pricey-but-healthy ingredients bring the cost of a 1.5-lb loaf cost about $14, but the taste is heavenly. It makes french toast so yummy that you have to have someone nearby to slap the smile off your face and the moaning coming from inside.
$14! Dying to know what the magic ingredient is.
I love youtubers who are on the same ‘age page’ as us (very calm, easy going and no hype!). Thanks for your informative Alaska journey log. Your episodes (including John) helped round our thoughts of our departure (this week) to the north/west and into Alaska. Although some comms (communications) mentioned are dated, we’ll be just fine. Love from Newfoundland!!
Thanks. Hope you have a wonderful trip!
Happy Birthday John. Thanks for sharing for videos, they are great to see. What are you using for a weather app(s)?
We were forced to switch to Apple Weather when they bought Dark sky. But it’s actually been good and we’ve adjusted. Old dogs learning new tricks. 😅
Some of the best sleeps hangouts & laughs are in friend/family driveways. Happy Sweet 71 to John!🍦🎉
Hi Debbie and John. My husband and I enjoy your videos and live vicariously through you. I searched through past videos but couldn't find the answer to my question. Are you still using the Boost system for your personal hotspot? If not, which system are you currently using and are you happy with it? Thank you so much!! and happy birthday John.
We sold the booster several years ago and got a Verizon MiFi hotspot which gives a little bit of a boost. We don’t mind being without service for short periods of time. We will not be getting Starlink.
Happy Birthday and for a fun video.
